Working in collaboration with Tai Lue artisans in Ban Phonxay village near Luang Prabang, we’ve created a mix of rugs in a range of colours and styles. Working from their home village, the weavers are able to balance their domestic and child care routines, while still working and earning income.
The sturdy, heavy weight cotton yarns contribute durability and softness. The zigzag pattern is woven using tapestry weaving technique where the weaver works without the aid of a pattern on the loom! The motif is inspired by similar patterns seen on Lao sinhs, although on a smaller scale.
